If you are looking for the perfect place for a beach holiday, then Vilamoura in the Algarve is your first choice. There are miles of sandy beaches stretching on both sides of Vilamoura's exclusive marina and all you have to do is decide whether to go left or right!
All beaches are easily accessible and the infrastructure is excellent. There are sun loungers and umbrellas, countless beach bars and restaurants and the range of water sports activities is enormous. All beaches have been awarded the blue flag and are patrolled in the summer months.
Praia de Vilamoura
The Praia de Vilamoura is located on the eastern side of the Vilamoura marina and extends to the fishing port of Quarteira. It is a beautiful, wide and long sandy beach with beach bars, restaurants, sun loungers. Access to Praia de Vilamoura is very easy, there is a large car park just behind the beach from which a boardwalk leads directly to the beach.
Praia da Rocha Baixinha
To the west of the Vilamoura lagoon and the marina begins the beautiful and very long Praia da Rocha Baixinha beach. Its soft white sand stretches along the beautiful red sandstone cliffs to Praia da Falésia, which in turn extends to Olhos de Água in Albufeira.
Praia da Rocha Baixinha is an easy walk from the marina via a passenger bridge. A boardwalk leads along the beach past sun loungers, beach bars and restaurants. Water sports enthusiasts will find an extraordinarily wide range of options here. The beach is also wheelchair accessible and is patrolled in the summer months.
Praia de Quarteira
The city beach Praia de Quarteira extends east of the commercial port of Quarteira. This long and wide sandy beach runs directly along the promenade. The beach, which gently slopes towards the sea and the calm water between the piers, is very popular with families. After several kilometers, Praia de Quarteira meets Praia do Forte Novo, a small stretch of beach in front of a low cliff that shines yellow in the sun.
The Praia de Quarteira is easy to reach from the promenade and has a very good infrastructure. It is easily accessible for wheelchair users and is guarded in the summer months.
Praia do Almargem
The quiet Praia do Almargem follows directly after the Praia do Forte Novo and is just a few minutes' walk from Quarteira directly on the Laguna de Almargem, where the small river Rio de Almargem flows into the sea.
Endless beaches - ideal for beachcombers
For persistent beachcombers, Vilamoura is the ideal starting point for miles of beach walks. To the west, the sandy beaches run uninterrupted all the way to Albufeira. If you turn east you can hike to the luxury holiday resorts “Quinta do Lago” and “Vale do Lobo”. The landscape is very varied, small rivers form lagoons and wetlands, pine groves interrupt the bizarre cliffs. A unique experience!
