The Eastern Algarve, also known as the Sandy Algarve, boasts an unusual landscape of lagoons, sandbanks and islands. The entire coastline is part of the Ria Formosa nature reserve. The sea here is generally somewhat warmer than in other areas of the Algarve. The extensive sandy beaches of the small islands impress with their white sand, clear water and a large variety of shells that can be found there. If you imagine a sandy beach in your dreams, it would certainly look like the small islands, or at least something similar...
Like Olhao, the sandy beach of Tavira is located on an island off the coast. The ferry port is about 2 km from the city center. Buses go there from Praca da Republica. Boats leave several times a day for the long, beautiful white sandy beaches. Here, too, you can spend the day with many others at the shaky beach bars on the land side or enjoy the solitude on the sea side (even in high season).
